Session Zero Questions
Questions to ask the players:
- Content Wants/Dispreferrences/Bans
- Desired Campaign Length
- Desired Campaign Tier (A/C/E)
- Desired Tone (Gritty vs. Heroic), Themes
- Desired Combat Difficult
- Desired Combat Tactical Depth (Smart enemies?)
- Desired Combat Frequency (See 'Fast Pace!' below)
- Desired Freedom (Railroad vs. Sandbox)
- Desired Location/Breadth (One-city vs. Planar)
Questions for players to ask themselves:
- Party composition?
- Do you want to play if one player cannot make it? If two cannot?
- What icon do you want as a shared enemy?
- What sort of villain do you want? (Complex vs. straightforward evil)
- Do you prefer NPCs to be mostly trustworthy, or more conniving?
- What sorta alt-rules or homebrews do we want?
- Only Meaningful Deaths
- Talent-swapping with other classes
- Dual classing
Topics to inform the players on:
- Economy is pretty squishy
- Magic item cadence. GM-picked, one every couple of levels, suggestions encouraged
- Icon benefits. Spend one to:
- Have a friend nearby,
- Have a friend agree to do something,
- Confound an enemy,
- Get a single-use magic item,
- Learn something true,
- Or anything else you can think of!
- Fast pace! I like to run two combats per session, every third session no combat.
- You are allowed to switch out talents, powers, and feats if you aren't having fun with them.
